Varicocele Treatment in Chirag Enclave, Delhi
Introduction
An enlargement of the veins inside the scrotum (the loose skin that holds your testicles) is called a varicocele. Varicoceles are similar to varicose veins, which are seen on your leg. It can affect 1 in every five men. Varicoceles can be painless or cause aching testicles and are often a cause of male infertility. Surgical options are available to those individuals who require treatment or are facing issues with reproduction issues. Your healthcare provider can help you identify which treatment is best for you.
What are the Symptoms of Varicocele?
Often a varicocele will produce no symptoms. However, some individuals may notice the following symptoms.
- Testicular or scrotal pain usually in your left testicle, which improves on lying down.
- A lump in your testicle
- Swelling in your scrotum
- Twisted or enlarged veins in your scrotum are described as a “bag of worms.”
- Infertility in males
- Worsening of symptoms after activities that put pressure on your scrotum like bike riding or standing for a prolonged period
What are the Causes of Varicocele?
The exact cause of varicoceles is unknown. The testicles are held in place by a band of tissues called the spermatic cord. Usually, veins consist of one-way valves which allow blood to flow from the testicles to the scrotum and then to the heart. However, due to a faulty valve, blood begins to accumulate in the vein causing it to enlarge. This accumulation and backup of blood in the veins of the spermatic cord will eventually lead to a varicocele over time.
When should you See a Doctor?
Usually, a varicocele has no symptoms and may not require any treatment. However, you will need to contact your doctor if you experience pain or swelling in your scrotum, notice a size difference in your testicles, discover a mass on your scrotum, especially in your youth, or are having fertility issues.

- A physical examination in which your doctor examines and feels your testes for any enlarged veins. He may also ask you to stand, hold your breath and bear down (Valsalva maneuver) to identify a smaller varicocele.
- Routine semen or blood tests may be done to rule out infertility causes
- Scrotal ultrasound can help in confirmation of your diagnosis
What are the Remedies / Treatment for Varicocele?
Treatment for varicoceles is done only if it is causing symptoms, unbearable pain, or facing fertility issues.
- Medical Management- Besides pain killers, there is no medical management for varicoceles.
- Surgical management- If the condition negatively impacts you, then surgery may be advised. Surgery includes clipping or tying off the problematic veins in a procedure called a varicocelectomy. This procedure is short, and you will be discharged on the same day.
- Percutaneous Embolization- An interventional radiologist performs percutaneous embolization. The problematic veins are identified, and the blood flow to them is blocked with the help of a sclerosing (stiffening or hardening) agent.
