Mastopexy
Mastopexy is the medical name given to what is commonly referred to as breast lift. It is a surgical procedure performed at Apollo Spectra, Kanpur, in which the surgeon raises and modifies the shape and size of your breasts to give them a firmer, rounder look and improve their appearance.
This is achieved by repositioning the nipples higher on the chest wall as well as removing the extra skin and tightening the tissues surrounding the breast.
Some women also get the size of the areola or the colored area surrounding the nipple altered as it may get enlarged with age.
As a woman gets older, there are many naturally occurring changes in the body. Changes in the shape, size, and firmness of the breasts are part of such changes that are experienced by every woman.
These changes can also occur due to other reasons like:
- Weight gain or loss
- Pregnancy
- Breastfeeding
- Genetics
These factors cannot be controlled but a breast lift procedure can help retain or maintain the youthful appearance of a woman.
Some women also get breast augmentation or implants at the same time as the breast lift.
What is the procedure of a breast lift?
The surgeon starts by marking the proper position of where the nipple is supposed to be placed while you are in the standing position.
As the next step, general anesthesia is injected before the surgery begins so you would be unconscious and relieved of any pain inflicted during the surgery.
Incisions are made around the areola, usually extended from the bottom of the areola to the crease and sometimes, to the sides of the areola as well. These incisions are made in a way that they are less visible.
The surgeon will reposition the areolas to the marked position after lifting and modifying the shape of your breasts. The areolas may be resized as well.
The extra skin is then removed to provide a firmer appearance to the breasts and the incisions are then closed using stitches, sutures, or skin adhesives. A drain may be placed under the skin in case of any natural fluids being discharged.
