As the name itself suggests, gastro refers to related to stomach. Therefore, gastroenterology is the branch of medical science that deals with the functioning, disorders, and treatment of abdominal parts. The organs under concern in gastroenterology are the stomach, small intestine, large intestine, liver, gall bladder, pancreas, liver, bile, or esophagus. The doctor specialist in gastroenterology is the gastroenterologist.

 However, the gastroenterologist usually does not perform surgical methods for treatments. They mostly deal with non-surgical methods like providing antibiotics. There are some specialists, gastro surgeons, who perform surgeries to treat gastric issues.
