Venaseal: A Boon in Treatment of Varicose Veins
August 19, 2021Varicose veins are bulgy and twisted veins protruding on the skin surface. It is similar to spider veins but is more obvious. Spider veins are red and blue lines on the skin similar to a tattoo. Both varicose and spider veins are found commonly in the legs. They occur mainly because of faulty valves and weakened and enlarged vein walls.
The common symptoms of varicose veins :
There are some symptoms of varicose veins
- Spider veins appearing
- Itching or burning of the skin
- Swollen calves and ankles
- Fatigue and heaviness in the legs
- Intense pain
- Bulging veins
- Throbbing in the legs
- Muscle cramps
This condition affects millions of people every year. With the advent of new techniques like Venaseal, it is now possible to treat varicose veins in a more comfortable and faster manner. In particular, it is helpful for the older population with advanced vein disease, skin damage, open wounds, and severe pain.
A treatment without stockings
Until recently, almost any treatment of varicose veins required stockings. It was hard to imagine a treatment that didn’t involve stockings. They were needed for both minimally invasive and open surgery, including radiofrequency ablation, endovenous laser ablation, and even the mechanochemical ablation techniques such as Clarivein. Venaseal is a unique treatment technique in that regard as it doesn’t require any stockings.
Comfortable treatment and comfortable recovery
The procedure of Venaseal treatment requires only a single prick per vein, similar to the placement of an IV line. Because of only one needle prick, the patient is more comfortable during this procedure. Not just that, the treatment also doesn’t require any saline injection or anesthesia medicine to be given. As such, the procedure is suitable for older patients having other health conditions like heart disease.
Conventional treatment methods for varicose veins like radiofrequency ablation or endovenous laser ablation need multiple needle pricks along the vein for numbing the area. This process can be particularly uncomfortable for patients. Some would even require sedation or even spinal anesthesia for the pain.
Varicose veins treatment no longer has to be an unpleasant experience. Now, non-thermal techniques are being used, in which the patients don’t have to be given multiple pricks for local anesthesia that are given in thermal techniques. This is known as tumescent anesthesia or tumescence, which is a mix of saline and local anesthetic medication. It is injected around the affected vein for locking in the heat in the target vein and preventing the burning of other healthy tissues.
The Venaseal procedure involves delivering an adhesive in a controlled way inside the vein, which immediately closes the vein. In comparison, other methods require 6-18 weeks for complete treatment. So, patients recover dramatically faster and can even get back to their daily activities immediately after their treatment. Since patients do not have to wear stockings after the treatment, their recovery process is more comfortable and saves them considerable trouble.
